Making sport accessible for all …
Community Kit Room

The Community Kit Room is a free service that provides appropriate sports clothing and footwear for people aged 3 – adult.

Its aim is to support members of the community within Blaenau Gwent with their health, sport and fitness journey ensuring that having the appropriate kit isn’t a barrier to participation.

We’re working with a number of local organisations, businesses, residents and schools to collect and distribute kit across the community.

The Community Kit Room is situated in both Abertillery, and Tredegar sports centres.  You can enquire about available sportswear, with the potential to view and select items through enquiries.  To make it accessible and convenient for everyone, we have expanded our Community Kit Room hubs to provide drop off and collections points within the local community.  Additionally, there are a number of donation bins located across the borough to allow quick and easy donations. Both the hubs and bins’ locations are listed below (please check the opening times and dates for donations and collections).

If you’d like to make a donation,

We accept:

  • General sports clothing, trainers and boots

The feedback has been really positive.  We plan to grow this initiative and continue to support the local community by:

  • Sourcing specific kit, listening to your feedback

  • Increase the number of hubs

  • Continue to work with partners to get the message to as many people as possible

  • Host and attend community events to raise awareness and funds to purchase even more appropriate kit for all ages

It’s a brilliant idea and has already had a positive impact!

It’s an incredibly important cause and I’m glad I could help add to their stock.

My daughter wanted to join Valleys Gymnastics Academy, but didn’t have a leotard. The team delivered one the next day.

In a time of desperate need due to homelessness and bereavement, the support we received was incredible. The Community Kit Room stepped in when it mattered most, providing help quickly and efficiently. Their kindness and responsiveness made a huge difference during such a difficult time — they truly couldn’t have been more helpful.

After accessing kit, the young person was able to compete in his rugby tournament.

The sportswear items will be a massive help for the families.

It’s fantastic! You provided the appropriate kit for my granddaughter to start playing football!
— Grandparent
Working in a school with children who have emotional and behavioural difficulties, I often see learners from families facing real struggles. The Community Kit Room has been a lifeline, providing items for those in need. When my own daughter needed sportswear for a new sport, they supplied everything in excellent condition - clean, comfortable, and ready to use. Seeing the children, including my daughter, happy, confident, and fitting in with their peers was priceless. The kit room’s support for families and the wider community is truly incredible.
